SPOT Satellite Messenger an Essential Piece of My Gear to Keep Near.
September 25, 2008
Every so often you find a piece of gear that jumps to your essentials list instantly. I call these pieces of survival equipment “Gear to Keep Near” and my SPOT Satellite Messenger always makes my “It Kit”. When “It” hits, this is the gear I want near. Along with my GORE-TEX apparel, my Adventure Medical Kit and Bivvy, my Princeton Tech headlamp, a SOG Knife and my Katadyn Extreme Water Purifier, the SPOT unit gives me all I need to push further.
Three or four times a week I use it to let those following the Wonder Explore Believe National Tour know where I am. What I find so cool about my SPOT is that it pulls double duty. It’s like a comic book super hero, waiting to spring into action in a moment’s notice. If I need the 911 function, it’s right there near me. Hit the button and help is on the way. I’ve said before that my SPOT unit makes me just a bit braver. It’s peace of mind, an insurance policy if I get into trouble. My first step in emergency preparedness is to check the batteries in my SPOT unit.
I am honored to be, along with experts like Les Stroud, Matthew Lee and Jose Wejebe, a SPOT Ambassador.
